What is Enquiry Based Learning?

Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) is an approach that provides a structured framework of questioning and experiences that enable students to learn discipline-specific terminology, theories, methods and techniques whilst at the same time developing critical thinking, research skills and leadership abilities. An IBL approach encourages students to determine key questions, solve dilemmas and follow multiple pathways of investigation in the process of seeking answers and solutions.  IBL places students at the center of their own learning, and allows students to discover more about their learning styles and strategies. IBL is known as EBL (Enquiry-Based Learning) in the UK.
